WORK LOCATION: Coppr Rim Elementary School

 

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include the analysis and assessment of students, groups and /or classes. The reading specalist will support classroom teachers and the principal to utilize best practices and authoritative research in diagnosing reading problems and in evaluating reading progress of individual students, small groups or classroom groups. This position will organize reading instruction, selecting appropriate materials and modeling effective teaching techniques and strategies in the teaching of reading. Assisting school staff in preparation for and administration of standardized tests in reading, and in conjunction with appropriate administrative staff, planning and coordinating school-wide in-service training programs in reading instruction. Implement the reading curriculum and standards which include basic skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing. Reading Specialist will also work with at risk students as needed in a modified pull out program. Consult with Title I Core committee for improvements and suggestions for implementation and using state standards in developing and planning educational activities and lessons. Oversee training of paraprofessional and other duties as directed by the principal.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Requires a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate (twenty-one semester hours in content area and/or endorsement as applicable) and a Reading Specialist Endorsement
  2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
