JOB TITLE:                               Special Education Bus Aide

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

 

WORK LOCATION: Transportation

               

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position involves assisting special education students onto and off of the school bus.  Being sure students are properly secured and seat belted. Assisting the bus driver in maintaining order and averting situations that distract the bus driver from his/her driving duties. Other duties include assisting students into the classroom and to their homes. Skills needed for this position include the ability to safely handle and care for the special education students; understanding and patience are extremely important. Must be able to effectively intervene and assist in the resolution of any student crisis that may occur. Performs other duties as required by the district.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Some college or other post high school training, including courses in child psychology, guidance, crisis intervention or other related areas of study desirable. Must complete a CPR First Aide Course.
  3. Must be able to move about bus, classroom and campus. Must be able to lift up to a fifty pound child and assist with wheelchair bound students. Position requires extensive sitting.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
